Philosophy of EducationThe purpose of education is to gain more knowledge about life and discover your passions while facilitating the desire to learn more and follow your interests that benefit your career and future. The role of my students is to take part in the learning experience, where they can engage with the subject and ignite curiosity to want to learn more about art. I specialize in teaching painting, drawing, sewing, and book arts. I used never believe that I could paint until my high school art teachers provided me with a caring and encouraging learning environment that enabled me to thrive and look forward to creating my own artwork that I knew would improve the more I created.
My goals for my students in my subject area are to become better artists. Many people feel that there are two approaches to art, and it is you can draw or not draw; in my classes, the concept of drawing and creating great artwork is based on self-expression and visually articulating ideas to tackle bigger meanings behind the artwork. The term “artist” is treated as an attitude in my classroom, and anything can be art with the right intentions. I teach my students the traditional and fundamental concepts of art through lessons that are inclusive to all students and intended to be useful for their future as artists and as educated individuals. I will design my instruction to have the greatest impact by giving students inspiration and much room to demonstrate their creativity by implementing a variety of mediums and styles of artwork in the classroom. My lessons include drawing realistically with graphite, and watercolor painting, using sewing to create 3-dimensional sculptures, digital artwork in Photoshop and Illustrator, and using our digital artwork in printmaking. My curriculum incorporates content standards, adaptations for students with special needs and disabilities, adaptations for advanced students, guided notes, and numerous supplemental materials to ensure their understanding of the content. Facilitating an environment of care and warmth to create a safe space for creativity are the fundamentals of my classroom, where I believe every student is capable of succeeding in the arts if they have passion or interest. A warm and creative learning environment can enable students to enjoy the class and want to learn. At the end of my course, I want my students to feel capable of making works of art, and my goal is to help them be the best artists they can be. |
